NEW MAZDA2 1.6 SPORT DIESEL MODELS ON SALE NOW AT RIVERVALE MAZDA

Two new Mazda2 1.6D Sport models have arrived at Rivervale Mazda, offering motorists in Brighton the rare combination of sportscar performance, fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The model achieves 67.3mpg on the combined cycle and boasts a CO2 rating of only 112g/km – qualifying for Band C and an annual road fund licence of just £35.

The introduction of two new Mazda2 1.6D Sport models has doubled the line-up of diesel-powered cars in this popular range. Mazda2 customers now have a choice of two diesel powertrains (1.4 68ps and 1.6 90ps), and two generous equipment levels (TS2 and Sport) – with three-door and five-door hatchback body styles.

The arrival of the incredible fuel-efficient new diesel Sport models have given added stimulus to the popularity of the lightweight, streamlined, fun-to-drive Mazda2, which was also boosted by the three-door model last year," enthuses Malcolm Hance, dealer principal at Rivervale Mazda.

"All our award-winning Mazda2 models received significant design and specification upgrades earlier this year, so that every model out-performs potential rivals in terms of standard equipment and price – as well as ride, handling, economy and emissions. The three-door model with its keen pricing, £500 lower model-for-model and the latest 90ps diesel models will take the Zoom-Zoom appeal of Mazda2 to an even wider audience. It is the naturally sporty choice for supermini car buyers."
For Brighton drivers who are in search of even greater fuel economy, the Mazda2 1.4D TS2 achieves 68.9mpg (combined cycle), matches the 1.6D Sport around town (55.4mpg) and reaches 62mph from standstill in 15.5 seconds. This model's CO2 rating is 107g/km which qualifies it for a Band B road fund licence.

For 2009, Mazda2's generous standard equipment levels were upgraded even further. The Mazda2 1.4D TS2 (from £11,153) features include: 15-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, air-conditioning, remote central locking with deadlocks, electric front windows, driver seat height adjust, CD radio with auxiliary (AUX) input jack and four speakers, steering wheel-mounted
audio controls, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, body coloured electric folding door mirrors, 60/40 split rear seats and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm plus immobiliser.

Topping the 2009 range, the new Mazda2 1.6D Sport (from £12,817) gains new projector type sports style headlamps for a more distinctive appearance. Inside, it has dark cloth door trim inserts and black-out instruments to enhance its sporty appeal. Standard equipment (above the TS2) includes: 16-inch alloy wheels, Sports Styling Kit, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control System, front fog lights, dusk sensing auto-lights and rain sensing auto-wipers, electric rear windows (5dr only), 'trip computer, speed alarm, two additional audio speakers (total six) and climate control air-conditioning.

Rivervale Mazda customers can choose between nine exterior colours – two solids (Brilliant Black and True Red), three mica colours (new Passion Orange, Aurora Blue and Metropolitan Grey) and three metallic finishes (Icy Blue, Spirited Green and Sunlight Silver) as well as a sporty pearlescent colour (Crystal White Pearlescent). Inside, both body styles are finished in two interior colours – Black (TS2) or Black Sports (Sport) upholstery.

"We expect the 2009 line-up, with its significant design and specification upgrades, plus the incredibly fuel-efficient new diesel Sport models and the stylish looking Tamura Special Edition models, to strongly appeal to customers," commented Malcolm Hance, dealer principal at Rivervale Mazda. "The Mazda2 is one of the very best cars available in the supermini market and boasts a spacious cabin and excellent driving dynamics as well as low running costs and low CO2 emissions."

The new 1.6-litre diesel engine is available in the Mazda2 Sport in both 3dr and 5dr body styles, offering an unrivalled, class-best blend of performance and fuel economy. The Mazda2 1.6D accelerates to 62mph in 11.4 seconds, achieves 67.3 mpg (combined cycle) and has a CO2 rating of only 112 g/km, qualifying for Band B annual road tax of just £35.

For a limited period in 2009, two Special Edition 'Tamura' models (based on the TS2) will be available. Equipment levels on Mazda2 are extremely generous. Occupant safety levels are amongst the best in class, with the Mazda2 5dr achieving a five-Star EuroNCAP crash test safety rating. The three-door also benefits from the same level of safety design, engineering and equipment.
Largely in recognition of Mazda's 'dare to be different approach', the new Mazda2 was named 'World Car of the Year 2008', beating a list of 39 other contenders, including the short-listed Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class.
With a starting price of just £8,899 on-the-road, the Mazda2 TS 3dr (1.3-litre, 75ps petrol) is one of the most price-competitive small cars in the UK. Prices for the Mazda2 5dr start at £9,399 (TS 1.3-litre, 75ps).

Mazda Marches Forwards to Record Market Share

With a record share of the UK retail market, the imminent launch of all-new Mazda3 next month and a revised Mazda MX-5 on sale now, one of the few places in the UK car industry where the bosses still smile is Mazda UK.

"We've bucked the trend of gloom and despair that you can see throughout the industry at the moment," said Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director Mazda Motors UK. "January and February were the best start we have had to a year in terms of market share and we continued that trend in March," Mr Thomson added.

Mazda's share of the retail market was 3.1 percent in the last quarter, up from 2.7 percent a year ago. Share of the overall market was 2.5 percent, up from 2.3 percent last year. One of the keys to doing business in tough times is making the most of every opportunity, commented Mr Thomson. Used car sales have also been buoyant since the start of the year and with Mazda's ever-increasing customer base, dealers are finding parts and accessories business is a healthy revenue stream for them.
"In 2001 when Mazda UK was formed our market share was just 0.6 percent so we are entering our 2009 financial year as a company with eight years of continuous growth behind us." Highlights Thomson.

Success at the beginning of this year has been helped by new finance arrangements with Mazda's new credit company Santander. "We go into April with 0 percent finance offers not just for the first time on Mazda2 but also across the whole range" said Mr Thomson. "Using Santander for our financing gives us and our dealers a real competitive advantage."

To judge by the trade-ins the 157-strong dealer network takes, new retail and fleet customers are switching to Mazda almost on a daily basis. "Once we get a customer we tend to keep them. Our customers are very loyal and we are getting on to significantly more company user-chooser lists because Mazda6 and Mazda3 are very credible choices for fleet drivers."

* Mazda sold 7,734 cars in March for an overall market share of 2.5 percent, up from 2.3 percent in March 2008 when sales were 10,355. The overall UK market was down by 30 percent in March at 313,900 according to figures from the SMMT. In the first three months of the year, Mazda's sales totalled 12,320 for an overall market share of 2.6 percent. Sales in the corresponding period last year were 16,057.

ALL-NEW MAZDA3 ON SALE AT RIVERVALE MAZDA FROM MAY 2009

The all-new Mazda3 range for 2009 will go on sale at Rivervale Mazda, priced from £13,500 to £21,500, bringing great benefits to local retail customers and businesses. The 15-strong model line-up of hatchback and saloon models will arrive in the Victoria Road showroom from 18 May and boasts improved aerodynamics and retuned powertrains, resulting in significant reductions in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption – great news for businesses and private retail customers alike.

"The all-new Mazda3 features all the key attributes that made its 'big brother', the Mazda6, so popular with retail customers, fleet buyers and businesses with company car drivers," explained Malcolm Hance, dealer principal at Rivervale Mazda. "As well as ultra-competitive whole-life costs, strong residual values and class-leading specifications, motorists will also benefit from the dramatic CO2 emission reductions Mazda's engineers have achieved to bring all-new Mazda3 models below either the 120g/km or the 160g/km tax thresholds."

The CO2 output of the 1.6 petrol model has been cut to just 149g/km, from 162g/km on the current model, the 2.0 petrol is down to 159g/km from 189 g/km due in part to new i-stop technology and the 1.6 diesel is now just 119g/km, down from 128g/km, and benefits from only £35 per year road tax.

As a result of the emission cuts, fleets – whether they buy or lease the all-new Mazda3 – will reap savings in National Insurance contributions, which are paid on employee benefit-in-kind, and corporation tax under the strict new regulations coming into effect in April.

Mark Cameron, Mazda UK sales and marketing director, anticipates the all-new Mazda3 is going to be even more popular than its best-selling predecessor. "The all-new Mazda3 brings the sophistication, style, technology and refinement of the new Mazda6 to the compact family car market," comments Cameron. "The new model is improved visually, technically and in terms of comfort, with even more generous specification at each equipment level and safety-boosting DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) fitted as standard on every model, while continuing to deliver excellent value for money."

Rivervale Mazda will offer Mazda3 customers a choice of three petrol and three diesel powertrains, all fine-tuned to use less fuel. On the combined cycle, fuel consumption ranges from 41.5 to 44.8 mpg (manual transmission, petrol models, excluding MPS) and from 50.4 to 62.8 mpg (diesels). The 2.0 Automatic delivers fuel economy of 37.2 mpg.

Technical innovations include the fuel-stretching 'i-stop' (Smart Idling Stop System) technology on the Mazda3 2.0 Sport – which can deliver fuel consumption savings of up to 14 per cent on the combined cycle – and the new five-speed automatic transmission on the Mazda3 2.0 TS2 model.

Safety is paramount on all-new Mazda3, with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and an Emergency Stop Signaling (ESS) System standard on all models. This system automatically activates the hazard warning lights at cruising speeds when the ABS sensors detect emergency braking. The system automatically cancels the emergency signal when either the demand for ABS relaxes or when the brake pedal is released.

Rivervale Mazda customers who prefer a petrol engine can choose from 1.6 105ps and 2.0 150ps powertrains for the eight new Mazda3 models. The choice of diesel engines for six Mazda3 models is expanded with the new model to encompass 1.6 109ps, 2.2 150ps and 2.2 185ps engines.

To find out more about the Mazda range or to arrange a test-drive, please call Rivervale Mazda on 01273 707007 or visit the showroom at Victoria Road, Brighton.

All-new Mazda3 from £13,500 (OTR)

The all-new Mazda3 range goes on sale in at Rivervale Mazda in May, priced from £13,500 to £21,500 (on-the-road), with first deliveries scheduled from 18 May.   The all-new Mazda3 has a fresh bodystyle that portrays a more powerful and emotional design, with a richer expression and a more dynamic stance.  In many ways the new Mazda3 is a 'baby Mazda6' bringing the elegant excitement of that model's distinctive lines to the small family car sector.

All-new Mazda3 customers will have a choice of three petrol and three diesel powertrains, all fine‑tuned to use less fuel.  On the official combined cycle, fuel consumption* ranges from 41.5 to 44.8mpg (manual transmission, petrol models, excluding MPS) and from 50.4 to 62.8mpg (diesels).  The 2.0 Automatic delivers fuel economy of 37.2mpg and the Mazda3 MPS 29.4mpg.

Technical innovations featured on the all-new Mazda3 include the fuel-stretching 'i-stop' (Smart Idling Stop System) technology on the Mazda3 2.0 Sport, which can deliver fuel consumption savings of up to 16 percent on the combined cycle. In addition the new five-speed automatic transmission is introduced to the range on the 2.0-litre TS2.

"The all-new Mazda3 brings the sophistication, style, technology and refinement of the Mazda6 to the small family car sector.   The new model has a more striking design with higher levels of interior comfort and quality providing a more premium cabin environment. Meanwhile, an even more generous specification at each equipment level continues to deliver excellent value for money," commented Mark Cameron, sales & marketing director for Mazda UK .

*Fuel consumption range excludes New Mazda3 MPS.

Safety is paramount on the all-new Mazda3 with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and an Emergency Stop Signalling (ESS) System standard on all models.  This system automatically activates the hazard warning lights at cruising speeds when the ABS sensors detect emergency braking.  Mazda's Traction Control System (TCS), active front head restraints and six airbags are also standard across the range.

The shape of the all-new Mazda3 has lowered aerodynamic drag to just Cd 0.28 (saloon) and 0.30 (hatchback).  The improved aerodynamics and retuned powertrains, plus the reduced weight (down by 15 kilos on some models), result in significant reductions in CO2 and fuel consumption.

"Both retail and fleet customers will benefit from the dramatic CO 2 reductions Mazda's engineers have achieved to bring models below the 120g/km and 160g/km tax threshholds.  The CO 2 output of the 1.6 petrol model has been cut to 149g/km, from 162g/km on the current model. The 2.0 petrol (available from June) is down to 159g/km from 189g/km due in part to the new i-stop technology, the 1.6 diesel model emits just 119g/km, down from 128g/km, and benefits from only £35 per year road tax. 2009 Mazda MX-5 Hits Showrooms for Spring

The 2009 Mazda MX-5 range is now available at Rivervale's Victoria Road showroom ready for the rush of open-top sports car fans this Spring. Both the soft-top and Roadster Coupe bodystyles have been updated for 2009 to echo the design language seen on the all-new Mazda3, on sale from May, the Mazda RX-8 R3 and the award-winning Mazda2 supermini.

Thanks to enhanced chassis modifications, the 2009 Mazda MX-5 remains unrivalled both as a rewarding driver's car and an open-top roadster that can be used for everyday motoring all year round.

Fine-tuning of the engines coupled to aerodynamic drag reduction have achieved significant reductions in CO2 emissions and improved fuel consumption, which all contributed to reduced running costs over the outgoing model. In addition, the whole sports car ownership experience is supported by Mazda's renowned reliability and durability.

"The latest exterior, interior and technical upgrades to the 2009 Mazda MX-5 range will ensure that the soft-top will continue to offer pure, fun-to-drive, open-top motoring thrills, while the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe offers both open-top motoring as well as a more coupe-like, premium experience," commented Malcolm Hance, Dealer Principle of Rivervale Mazda.
Both the Mazda MX-5 soft-top and Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe remain true to the original concept which made the Mazda MX-5 the world's best-selling sportscar.
