MAZDA MX-5 - BRITAIN'S FAVOURITE SPORTS CAR

There is no better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than by purchasing a sports car from Mazda, Britain's favourite sports car brand.  The Mazda MX-5 is available from Rivervale Mazda in Victoria Road with either a power retractable hardtop or traditional soft-top –– both perfect for spring and summer driving.

“With its advanced driving dynamics and incredible handling, it’s no wonder the Mazda MX-5 is the world’s best-selling sports car,” declared Malcolm Hance dealer principal at Rivervale Mazda.  “The Mazda MX-5 is stylish, sporty and exciting, offering the thrill of sports car driving with the added benefits of refinement, security, reliability and affordability.  The soft-top can be opened and closed in just a few seconds, while the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe boasts the world’s fastest-folding powered hard-top –– up or down in just 12 seconds.”

The Mazda MX-5 delivers enhanced performance up to 134mph, yet also has improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 outputs, thanks to Mazda’s ‘weight-reduction strategy’.  The seven-strong Mazda MX-5 range is available at Rivervale Mazda from just £15,750 (soft-top) and £18,600 (Roadster Coupe) on-the-road.  Drivers can choose from three powertrains (1.8i or 2.0i with 5-speed gearbox, 2.0i with 6-speed), and a range of individual options and packages to personalise their sports car.

“The Mazda MX-5 is a really breathtaking drive,” added Malcolm.  “It’s an all-weather sports car, so ideal for British summers.  Drivers are welcome to come and test-drive it for themselves.”

The Mazda RX-8 - Revived and Refined

Publication: Autocar (p.38) | Publication date: 9 April MAZDA RX-8 First Verdict

Autocar puts the new Mazda RX-8 through its paces in this week’s First Drives column.

The upgraded model boasts a restyled front end and improved interior as well as reworked suspension and a stiffer chassis to sharpen handling and steering response - and Autocar’s view is, ‘it works’.

The RX-8 receives praise for its front-end grip, reduction in body roll and, “smooth, ‘fast’ and free revving” engine. The journalist adds, “It’s an aggressive package which makes for a rumbly, low-speed ride, but it points even better and will hang on longer in corners. The RX-8 is hard to fault on handling.” Autocar’s only regret is that the RX-8’s rotary engine remains basically unchanged.

The final verdict is that the makeover is a, “worthwhile update of a charismatic car” and the RX-8 receives an impressive four out of five stars.

MAZDA MX-5 THIS SUMMERS MUST HAVE

Publication: Auto Express (p56-58) | Publication date: 2 April Brewer's top drop-top

Spring is finally upon us and the burning question in this week’s Auto Express is: How do the ‘two best cabrios in the business’ - the Mazda MX-5 and the Audi A4 Cabriolet - compare?

Journalist Mike Brewer takes both cars for a spin and finds the Mazda MX-5 ‘comes alive’ on long twisty roads. He’s impressed with the roadster’s proportions, ‘rifle-bolt gearshift’, rear-wheel drive handling and light controls, and declares it ‘way ahead of its rivals’.

He concludes: “The Mazda MX-5 is a real classic in the making, and a large part of its appeal is the fact it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to buy or run. Add in cast-iron reliability and entertaining handling, and it’s a cabrio you can choose with your heart and your head.”

Summertime and the Mazda MX-5 – the classic mix.

'WORLD'S BEST CAR' ON SALE AT RIVERVALE MAZDA

Since its launch in 2007, Mazda’s newest supermini has gone from strength to strength attracting critical acclaim for its bold styling and exciting performance. However, this week the Mazda2 has begun to conquer the world after the all-new five-door hatchback was voted ‘2008 World Car of the Year’ (WCOTY) by an international jury of 47 automotive writers.

Selected from a list of 39 global contenders (Which included the Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class), the new Mazda2 was crowned ‘World’s Best Car’ at the recent New York International Auto Show and with previous winners of this coveted award including the Lexus LS460, BMW 3-Series and Audi A6, the new Mazda2 is in great company.

“This highly-acclaimed accolade confirms that Mazda2 is indeed one of the very best cars available in the supermini market. Thanks to its distinctive styling, a spacious cabin, excellent driving dynamics and low CO2 figures, the Mazda2 ticks all the boxes for small car buyers.”

Malcolm Hance dealer principal, Rivervale Mazda.

The new Mazda2 represents a bold break with automotive trends, reversing the spiral of ever increasing weight and size. Now 40mm shorter and weighing 100kg less than its predecessor, the new Mazda2 is able to achieve an impressive 65.7mpg and a CO2 emissions rating at just 114g/km. These cuts all add up and offer our customers an annual road tax rate of just £35 and complete exemption from London Congestion charging when proposed changes are introduced later this year.

Five versions of the five-door hatchback are available with a choice of three petrol and one diesel engine plus three equipment levels – priced from just £8,499 on-the-road for the 1.3-litre, 75ps petrol TS model.

To find out more, or to arrange a test drive of the ‘World’s Best Car’, call Rivervale Mazda on 01273 707007 or visit the Victoria Road showroom.
